10-) About Freshman English

Honestly i thought that this lesson is unnecessary after taking English lessons for one year and passing the ELAE. I thought, if i can pass that school's english prep class (which i think a pretty succesful education system), i won't need any english lesson after that. Anyway, my idea has changed in time as i attend classes. Aim of the lesson is to develop speaking, writing and reading skills in English. That is why i thought it is unnecessary (I did it one whole year-last year). But there was one very important thing that this lesson gives. The ideas and opinions that we learn by reading the book and discussing these subjects in class, were very important and stimulating i think so i do not think that lesson is unnecessary anymore.

Also i want to thank to Hatice S.A. for making these lesson enjoyable, easy and eloquent..

9-) Presentation of The Other Boleyn Girl

I will talk some about our presentation. I, Selin and İsmet were a team at that presentation so it was both a team and individual permormance. Boleyn Girl were our presentation subject. We prepare a fourty minutes presentation in two days and it was pretty good i think. Our task was to find gender roles in the film. We found these gender roles easily thanks to the essays that we read from our ''lovely'' book and discussing that subject around 2 months. When we go to the class at presentation day, there was only 3 people except our teacher Hatice S.A. in class : D Actually i do not enjoy so much from our presentation. Problem was not us. Our presentation and individual performance were good i think but there is no audiance in class. It was like a practise on the presentation rather than a real presentation. Like they say these sort of performances are nothing without audiance. They are everything in these sort of events. Anyway that was one of the most succesful presentations i have ever did. Maybe it is because there was no audiance pressure =)

8-) Misbehave at the Opening of TT Arena

I will not talk about lesson subjects for this time. Finally our lovely team Galatasaray got its new stadium Türk Telekom (TT) Arena. For around 50 fifty years, Galatasaray had played its matches and achieved great successes in Ali Sami Yen Stadium. The opening of the TT Arena was last night. I will not mention about how a great stadium is TT Arena. I want to mention about a misbehave. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was in stadium yesterday. He made a great effort in construction of that stadium and as a natural consequent he was invited to the opening. When he entered the stadium and took a seat, some impertinent fans started to protest again him then he exitted the stadium. I do not writing these because of my political ideas, just because of say how bad act it is. People can have different political ideas or they may dislike or even hate him but it is not the place to show these ideas. Everything has a place and time. Despite his great efforts, this was a great indignity to him. Also it was a disgraceful act for me as a Galatasaray fan. I felt sad when that incident happened.

Anyway, we got a perfect stadium finally, thanks to all who have efforts in that project..

7-) Everything is for Beauty

I want to talk about a little the things that women does for the beauty. I talked about the media's affect on beauty and thinness. Women who watch TV or read magazine feel themselves worse, ugly and fat. So what do they do to be beautiful and thin? Here are some information! Since the past decade eating disorders rose exponentially. They eat nothing to lose weight. In addition some women can do extremely harmful things such as vomiting or taking pills to lose weight. Eating is a privilige rather than a need for women. In recent years cosmetic surgery plumetted. Breast surgery, lip surgery, liposuction are just a few of these sugeries. According to a research people spend 33 billion dolars to diet industry, 20 billion dolars to cosmetic industry and 300 million dolars to cosmetic surgery industry in a year! These numbers and what women do for beauty and thinnes are really unbelievable..

6-) Gender Roles in Adertisement

Sometimes it can be hard to see these gender roles in advertisements. Actually i have not watch carefully until we discussed that subject on class. Since that time, i look at these advertisement carefully and i can see it clearly now. Anyway they do not want us to realize these roles. They're doing it mostly purposely to imbed these ideas in our subconscious. If we look at them carefully, we can see that men are portrayed as though, strong, independent and women are portrayed as weak, fragile and dependent to a man. There is an ad. above about gender roles.

5-) The More You Subtract the More You Add

It is sad but true. Unfortunately our society and mass media make women adopt that idea. I have girl friends who say that they feel bad and fat when they read a magazine or TV. They see extremely thin and beautify by an extreme make up women in these magazines and TV. And not just the women, men too emulate what they see on our screens and advertisements. They want to be tough like the perfect men on advertisement. They want to dress up like them, cut their hair like them, look like them, they want to be like them. In fact wanting to be like them is related with the society i think. The basic idea of that desire is that people's standards increases when they see these perfect images on media. For example a boy see a girl in a cafe. First he thinks she is pretty but when he thinks about the images on media, he says 'No, it can be better'. In addition, people in a society can be provoking about weight sometimes. We can easily see examples of people who are alienated from society because of his/her weight unfortunately. Briefly media and society give that the idea 'You should be beautiful and thin. Otherwise you are screwed up'

4-) Story of an Hour

Heding of this writing was the heading of one of the essays that we read in class. If i summarize it, a woman heard about her husband's death and sat alone a hour in her room. She thought about her life, her relationship with her husband and at the end she was happy to hear about that new. A few minute later she saw her husband in front of herself and died because of heartdisease. Her husband was alive, it was just a wrong new.. I think we can take a lesson from that story. Did woman die because of excite or because of sadness? That's the crucial question. If she died becaouse of excite it is normal, it may occur in such incidents but if she died because of sadness, there is a problem at that point. If an individual deplore and die for seeing her/his spouse, that is not a marriage, that is called torture. Almost everyone have at least one relationship like this. One day you can say 'Hey! What am i doing, why am i with her/him? I'm not happy with it' Of course we can have some obligations in life and everyone haven't got the equal conditiions but we should know how and when to end these dead relations, we should know how to be happy.
